welcome back. sit tight for another session of cooking with yours truly. today's masterpiece is guinness and steak pie via jamie oliver. i saw this on the tele the other day and salivated.
it's awful weather today. another day of rain. i got to wear my new wellies though. that was fun. they're mid-calf wellies. they're green plaid and they have a green knitted bit that hangs over the top. super cute. i feel like you can get away with wellies more so in this country.
sorry, i got distracted. looks like the gang's all here!
the celery and carrots picked a fight with the portobello mushrooms, so i had to separate them. its the kitchen of hard knocks.
think i witnessed a drug deal outside the kitchen window. picture a red car, three men, one female. they left the car and came back...correction - they came back running to the car with a full backpack, jumped in and ducked low in their seats waiting for the female to come back. and then, they sped away. five minutes later i see a police car zoom by. hmm.
i can't pour a guinness to save my life.
recipe calls for 440ml of guinness. the bottle is 500ml. so we know what that means.
this is where all the magic happens.
this pie takes a while to cook. it's in the oven for an hour and a half and then you have to stir and pop it back in for another 45 minutes. i told rachel, we won't be eating 'til after nine o'clock. that's okay, she says, we'll get a head start on the wine. smart girl.
finally, some action.
here's rachel, brushing the outer edge with a whipped egg. she grated the cheese too and did an excellent job, might i add.
this is all coming together. so excited!!!!!
oh boy. get in my belly. you can imagine how amazing the flat smells right about now.
it melts in your mouth. it's amazingness in your mouth. thank you, mr. oliver. i think i've done you proud.
