mixed this morn. first time live infrontofastudioaudenceaha since two christmas' ago.
it only looks intimidating. it's kinda like battleship. sort of.
it is however, a slightly bigger board with a few extra channels...but, i know this board. it's kinda cool, yet equally impressive how even though the set-up is a bit different...i still know what i'm doing. and, it only took one night's practice to fall back into it all. i guess...i've been trained well. thanks christopher!
i think it's funny how the social worker is capable of understanding something so technical, so engineering-ish. although that's only one aspect of mixing. the other aspect is the actual music, the actual sound bit. and, knowing what you're after. what you want to achieve. what you want to highlight. a balance. dynamic and clean.
that's the compressor and eqs. i usually leave those alone tho. can't impress you with that. but, it's a long way down when you're six feet tall. well, more like five foot eleven. it's the boots.
i got goosebumps halfway through the set. sorry...worship. i love when that happens. God shows up because we've asked Him to. everything is sweet. everything sounds so sweet. everything fits together. people lost in His presence, audience and musicians. it's a neat perspective from the back.
this was the pre-service warm up. you have to believe me when i say the drummer was present. he was in the cage.
it also helps when you mix for good musicians. for people who know their instruments, are comfortable with their talent and desire to facilitate community worship. sensitivity. maturity. that was today. geez louise...the service was so much fun. highlight? the spiritual jam session. highlight? the older man who came up to me and said what i was doing was revolutionary. i guess he's never seen a woman run a board before. i laughed.
oh, those headphones have seen better days. need to find my quarter inch plug. my phones are better. oooooh.
goodness, it's good to be back. thank you, Jesus. thank you for this gift.

oh, and completely unrelated...tim just saw dawn for the first time in three years and you couldn't slap the permasmile off his face. sigh.
